ASUS Eee PC 1016p Go – Review – part two

March 20th, 2011 Keine Kommentare

Let’s continue! This is second part of my review of the Asus Eee PC 1016p Go.

The noble-looking, black case is a mix of, I think, some kind of solid plastic and brushed aluminum.
Asus has really made an effort to design a netbook in business-style.

The back of the display, thus the “cover”, is completely covered with brushed aluminum, as are the edges around the screen.
The keyboard is also “surrounded” by brushed aluminum. Only the area beside the trackpad is not brushed aluminum. This area only decorated with brushed aluminium on the 1018p. The underside was given a slightly rough pattern that ensures a good grip when carrying. Also on the bottom: two fan openings, and the flap for the main memory (RAM), which makes it easier to upgrade.

The Asus Eee PC 1016p Go has:

  • 3x USB (2x right side, 1x left side)
  • 1x VGA (D-SUB) output to connect an external screen or beamer
  • 1x Ethernet (right side)
  • 1x mic-in und 1x headphone jack (2x 3,5mm Jacks, right side)
  • SD(HC) Cardreader (right side)
  • 1x Kensington Lock (right side)
  • Connector for DC power supplier (left side)
  • 1 SIM card slot (hidden behind te battery)

The Asus Eee PC 1016P Go has a small built-in webcam with a resolution of 0.3 megapixels. This has, in my opinion, a worse quality than the Eee PC 901. A nice feature of the 1016P is that the webcam can be covered with a manual lock. The SIM card slot is hidden behind the battery. You have to remove the battery to insert the SIM card.

In addition to the switching power supply (110V to 240V), a support DVD, coupons for online stores of Deutsche Telekom (Softwareload, Gamesload, Musicload) and a warranty card, there’s a short instruction manual in the box.

Other than my Eee PC 901, there’s no bag included!

The conclusion

I am very satisfied with my Asus Eee PC 1016P Go. This netbook features long battery life, built-in quad-band HSPA mobile broadband, wireless, and a good display. All this packaged in a handsome, rugged housing – some of brushed aluminum. It is very crisp and still looks very elegant. However, I would have wished,  that at least a bag is included. That should be standard now! I fully recommend the Asus Eee PC 1016P Go.
